Description:

The role of the Employment Specialist is to support people with intellectual, developmental, and physical challenges find competitive, integrated employment that is consistent with their unique set of goals. This process includes the use of individualized and customized employment processes including: Discovery activities, coordination with the person and their Employment Support Team, Community Development activities and Job Development activities; and use of the "Customized Employment" process.

  • This is a hands-on full time hourly (non-exempt) position.
  • Typical work schedule is M-F 8:00 am 4:00 pm. However, there may be times when it is necessary to work outside these hours if the people supported initially work evening or weekend hours, or to meet with business owners/managers to accommodate their schedule.

Requirements:

The person in this position must be enthusiastic, positive, persuasive, independent, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative. In addition, we will consider anyone who:

  • Has an AA degree (BA preferred), plus one-year experience in the field of workforce development, job coaching or a closely related field.
  • Is 18 years old or older
  • Possesses a valid driver's license for at least one (1) year, but prefer two (2) years, not counting any time on a learner's permit.
  • Is able to attend our new hire training M-F 8:30 am - 5:00 pm for the first two weeks.
  • Can pass a basic reading comprehension and math test, a background check, and pre-employment screenings which include a drug screen and physical/fitness test.
  • Is physically fit in order to lift and transfer at least 50 pounds
  • Has the ability to provide direct care and implement proper restraint techniques to ensure the health and safety of the persons served.

Employment Specialists are expected to complete specific training requirements related to Customized Employment within first twelve months of employment in order to maintain the position. Applicants also need to pass a reading comprehension and math test, a background check, and pre-employment screenings which include a drug screen and physical/fitness test. Position requires lifting and transferring (at least 50 pounds), and the ability to provide direct care and implement proper restraint techniques to ensure the health and safety of the persons served.
